Job Description:
Ply Gem, a division of Cornerstone Building Brands, is looking
for a Thermoplastic Product Engineers to join our team in Kearney,
MO. Our Product Development Engineer will focus on composite
siding. The Product Engineer will work with the Product Management
team to ensure that Ply Gem Siding group achieves its product
development goals. The incumbent will help create ideas for new
products and will provide team leadership with siding group
technical teams and plants to ensure the timely execution of new
product initiatives. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with the product manager(s) to identify/refine concepts,
develop new products and product enhancements to grow Ply Gem sales
and margins.
- Participates in recommending Competitor Products for
competitive analysis.
- Work with product management to ensure timely development and
submittal of Capital Appropriation Requests (CARs) including
development of the justification and financial benefits.
- Provides team leadership between Engineering, Product and
Process Development and Plants to ensure proper specifications,
cost and product manufacturing performance is achieved.
- Prepares and presents to senior leadership proposals for new or
revised products and project status updates for projects that are
underway
- Establish testing criteria, measurement and analysis of
results. Develop corrective action as needed.
- Track cost and timing using appropriate project software and
publish results to director, product management, plants and others
as required.
- Depending on the nature of the project some of this information
may be executed by the Product Development Engineer or it may be
executed by another individual on that particular new product team.
The Product Development Engineer will be expected to provide the
necessary team leadership to ensure all aspects of the product
design are completed in a timely fashion.
- Maintains accuracy and currency of all technical product
information through standard process for document approval and
control. Maintains product design and product information
support.
- Works with the Code & Regulatory Manager as appropriate.
- Develops specifications and performance test requirements to
facilitate procurement of parts and equipment for home exterior
products. Analyzes technical data, designs, preliminary
specifications, manufacturing limitations, supplier facilities and
availability of parts and equipment.
- Interviews supplier representatives regarding specifications,
costs, inspection and similar problems relating to parts and
equipment. Arranges and participates in conferences between
suppliers and engineers, purchasers, inspectors and other company
personnel to facilitate material inspection, substitution,
standardization, rework, salvage, utilization, and economical
procurement of parts and equipment.
- Develops prototypes and models for refinement/evaluation
- Supporting manufacturing and design activities by developing
prototypes for products in development. Submitting proposals and
designs for evaluation by the project team and management before
moving to the next stage.
- Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics
Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Design or related
discipline.
- Minimum of five years experience in a
Product/Part/Design/Development position, preferably working with
injection molding, extrusion of plastics/polymers, roll form, metal
stamping or fabrication.
- Experience with machinery and tool design.
- MUST have Thermoplastic experience of 1-3 years
Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of design, building materials, and fabrication
processes.
- Ability to present technical information to technical and
non-technical personnel.
- Ability to manage engineering documentation systems across
several departments.
- Proficiency with Auto CAD or SolidWorks software.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills
required.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with limited
supervision.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools including Projects,
Visio, Excel, and Power Point.
Other: Position requires moderate travel (30-40%).
