Description The Controls Engineer will play a pivotal role in
designing, programming, and troubleshooting control systems to
optimize production processes. This position involves developing
and testing PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems, ensuring efficient
operation and compliance with safety standards. Responsibilities
Design, configure, and test PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems to meet
production requirements. Diagnose and resolve issues with automated
equipment and control systems to minimize downtime. Support
automation initiatives and continuous improvement projects to
enhance efficiency and reduce waste. Create and maintain wiring
schematics, control layouts, and system operation manuals.
Coordinate with vendors to obtain quotes, recommend suppliers, and
manage installation of control devices and equipment. Ensure all
systems comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory
standards. Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance
technicians on control systems. Essential Skills Proficiency in PLC
programming, including Allen-Bradley and Siemens systems.
Experience with HMI and SCADA configuration. Familiarity with
AutoCAD for panel design. Strong problem-solving skills and
analytical ability. Excellent interpersonal skills for
collaboration and leadership. Ability to travel up to 20% for
project support and commissioning. Additional Skills &
Qualifications Associate degree or higher in Electrical
Engineering, Controls, or related field; equivalent experience
considered. Minimum 1–2 years of experience in controls engineering
or automation within manufacturing environments. Proficiency in
Microsoft Office tools for documentation. Work Environment This
role is based in a newer building designed to meet specific needs,
providing a clean workspace. The environment is not
climate-controlled but equipped with fans for cooling during summer
months. The plant is non-union, and the team consists of other
controls engineers and skilled tradespeople. The dress code is
typical automotive attire, with pants and shirts. The position
operates on a day shift schedule aligned with GM, and may
transition to two shifts in 2027. Job Type & Location This is a
Permanent position based out of Kansas City, MO. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $95000.00/yr. PTO &
HOL pay Benefits - 401k, etc. Workplace Type This is a fully onsite
