Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (18:45 - 07:15) Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent specialty experience required, community hospital experience preferred License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS, ACLS preferred Description: Position: PCU Registered Nurse Shift: Nights, 3 x 12-hour shifts, from 18:45 to 07:15. Ratios: 1:5 Experience required: 2 years with community hospital experience preferred. Previous charge experience is preferred. First-timers are accepted. Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments may be required as needed. Weekend requirement: 8 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule period, including a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Clinicians may be required to float between departments to meet facility needs. Certifications required: BLS, NIHSS, ACLS preferred. Skills required include working in MS/Tele, telemetry oncology, cardiac telemetry, ER holding, neuro stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown. Cardiac monitoring and emergency response: interpretation of dysrhythmias, management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring on the unit, and use of rapid response teams. Cardiovascular skills include post-cardiac angiogram, post-MI care, pre/post-cardiac cath. Gastrointestinal skills include feeding tube care and management. Genitourinary/renal skills include pre/post-hemodialysis management and renal failure management. IV therapy/phlebotomy skills include blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, and PICC line management. Medication management includes heparin protocols and managing cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration, as well as PCA administration. Neurological/psychiatric skills involve care for CVA patients. Plastics skills include surgical drain management. Respiratory skills include chest tube management, external CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula, interpretation of ABGs, and oxygen management. Professional skills include isolation precautions and wound care. Preferred skills include sheath removal and accessing ports. Special requirements include AMI, cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, chest pain, vascular/PVD care, intermediate level of care, sepsis/infection management, pneumonia care, alcohol withdrawal management, and GI bleed management. Special equipment includes telemetry monitoring. Type of facility: community hospital with a total of 240 staffed beds, including a 16-bed ICU. Scrub color: navy. Charting system: electronic health record system. COVID-19 vaccination is not required, but flu vaccine is required with medical/religious exemptions allowed. Reference requirement: 2 references required; one supervisor level or above and one charge RN from within the past year. Drug screening policy includes cancellation if results are diluted or positive and cannot be cleared. Modules averaging 5-8 hours are required and must be completed prior to start.
