DescriptionJob SummaryThe First Year Academic Success Specialist
(Lecturer), under the supervision of the First Year Program
Coordinator, addresses academic success and related issues of First
Time in College (FTIC) students. Teach the Freshman SeminarPlan
organized lessons, based on curriculum learning
objectivesIncorporate AVID High Impact Teaching StrategiesMaintain
attendance and student grade recordsProvide
grade/attendance/assessment records and final report to UNIV
CoordinatorMaintain records of student communications and
appointments on StarfishCommunicate effectively with
studentsMaintain regular office hoursWork collaboratively with
advisors and facultyParticipate in University Student Success
Faculty Learning Community monthly meetings and required
trainings.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesConduct purposeful
interactions with First Time in College (FTIC) students for
individualized academic success coaching, with the goal of
maintaining student success and increasing student retention from
spring to fall. Specifically,Provide one on one academic success
support to FTIC students to ensure ongoing successful progress to
completion of degree program, by identifying options best suited to
student's goals, interests and skillsPartner with academic
advisor(s) to assist in communications with FTIC studentsRecord all
student communications on StarfishPartner with Academic Recovery
Advisor to administer the appropriate program to FTIC students
placed on Scholastic ProbationContribute to/Create a First Year
Javelina newsletterCollaborate with appropriate partners to
organize and implement a series of workshops targeting FTIC student
success and retentionCollaborate with appropriate partners to
organize and implement Freshman Convocation and Freshman
Convocation and a year-end First Year CelebrationWork
collaboratively and collegially with academic units and services
throughout the university, as needed, to facilitate comprehensive
FTIC student support.Additional duties as assigned by Associate
Vice President for Student Success The above represents the major
duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not

duties may be assigned.Minimum RequirementsEducation- Master's
degree in a relevant field.Experience- No experience
neededKnowledge of- Knowledge of Word processing and
spreadsheets.Ability to-Ability to multitask and work
cooperatively. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Preferred
RequirementsOne year prior experience in teaching in higher
education.Knowledge of Blackboard LMS.All positions are
