Job Description: RECOVERY PEER SPECIALIST YOUTH RECOVERY SERVICES
Independence, Missouri (Kansas City area) Recovery Peer Specialists work in the Youth Recovery Services program focusing on comprehensive care involving recovery services for substance use, co-occurring and trauma services. The Peer Specialist guides youth clients toward treatment and recovery services, promotes clients progress in this journey and assist clients in meeting their individualized treatment plan goals. They provide a role model for effective use of recovery skills, self-care and healthy coping mechanisms. They meet the client at any point in their journey in a non-judgmental and authentic manner.
What you'll get to do:

  • Provide practical role modeling, utilizing his/her experience and ability to meet the needs of the client and the goals of treatment, and engage in any other activities that meet those needs and goals
  • Implement guidelines, procedures and program rules accurately and consistently
  • Assist client's participation and implementation in treatment planning with other team member and client
  • Promote skills for coping with and managing addictions and mental health symptoms while encouraging the use of natural supports and enhancing community living
  • Share lived experiences of recovery, sharing and supporting the use of recovery tools and model successful recovery behaviors
  • Help clients develop a network of information and support in the community
  • Assist clients with identifying their strengths and personal resources to aid in their recovery, make independent choices and take a pro-active role in their own treatment
  • Teach and model symptom management and problem-solving skills
  • Observe, record and communicate clients' behaviors, strengths, progress, areas of difficulty and needs in a timely manner, utilizing established mechanisms and program formats
  • Complete any documentation in a timely manner
  • Provide transportation as clinically appropriate
    Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma/GED
    • Must have a valid driver's license and a favorable recent driving record.
    • Certified Reciprocal Peer Recovery (CRPR) credential is preferred
    • Must be a Certified Missouri Peer Specialist
