certifications!Responsibilities: The Surgical First Assistant will
perform in the role of Surgical First Assistant under the direct
supervision of the surgeon. The First Assistant will maintain
certification through continuing education. This position will be
performed in addition to the current facility description of the OR
tech. First Assistants are expected to perform proficiently in the
first scrub and assistant position in at least four or more of the
following specialties: Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular,
Plastic and Reconstructive, Obstetrics/Gynecology, ENT and General
Surgery. First Assistant will work within the scope of practice for
the non-MD First Assistant set forth by the American College of
Surgeons and by CTMC. Assist the OR team in the care of patients,
equipment and supplies.
What Qualifications You Will Need:
- Completion of Operating Room or Surgical Technician training
with evidence of experience in the past three years and completion
of surgical first assist program.
- Current national certification through one of the following
bodies: Liaison Council on Certification of the Surgical
Technologist (LLC-ST), National Surgical Assistants Association
(NSAA), or The American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
required.
- BLS Certification required
- Must have experience in a variety of surgical specialties
including: Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular, Plastic,
Gynecology, ENT, and General Surgery. Cardiothoracic surgery
experience preferred.
- One year of FA experience preferred. Centerpoint Medical Center

- Level II Trauma Center (the only one in eastern Jackson County)
with 24/7 Emergency Services
- An accredited Chest Pain Center and a variety of Cardiovascular
Services
- Orthopedic Services including Total Joints and Sports
Medicine
- An accredited Cancer Program and a state-of-the-art Breast
Center with a nurse navigator
- Neuroscience Services for the treatment of brain and spine
disorders as well as injuries
- Women's Services, including the only Level III Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit in eastern Jackson County to provide care for
early or ill newborns and a labor and delivery unit
- Outpatient Services, including a surgery center, advanced wound
care center, sleep disorders center, imaging, rehab and more. The
